Meet the New Harry Potter: Dominic McLaughlin in HBO’s First Official Image
HBO has just released the first image from its new television series adaptation of the Harry Potter books, revealing the appearance of young actor Dominic McLaughlin as the famous boy wizard.
In the image posted on March 24th, McLaughlin appears in a Gryffindor Quidditch robe, with the name “Potter” and the number 7 printed on his back. He is holding a broomstick and walking towards a group of students, giving off a familiar wizarding world vibe. HBO also included the cryptic caption “Tomorrow ⚡️,” leaving fans anticipating more information soon.
This television project is expected to adapt all seven of J.K. Rowling’s books, with each book corresponding to a season. Production began in July, and the film is scheduled for release in 2027.
Alongside McLaughlin, young actors Arabella Stanton and Alastair Stout will play Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, respectively. These characters were previously portrayed by Emma Watson and Rupert Grint in the film series.
Actor Daniel Radcliffe – who played Harry Potter – shared that he and his former co-stars were very moved to see the new generation of actors. He said they all felt a strong desire to hug and encourage the young actors as they embark on a journey they themselves had once undertaken.
Radcliffe also revealed that he wrote a good luck letter to McLaughlin. In response, the young actor couldn’t hide his surprise and excitement at receiving the letter, especially upon realizing it was from “Dan R.” For his part, McLaughlin said he’s a longtime Harry Potter fan and considers this a dream role. The moment he first put on the costume and stepped onto the set felt incredibly “surreal.”
HBO’s Harry Potter television series is expected to offer a fresh perspective on the wizarding world when it officially airs in 2027.
